Summer Aquatic Program Swim Skills
Starfish (6 months - 4 years with parent):
- Getting comfortable with teacher, pool, & class
- Getting wet, going under water
- Parent and child learn ride positions /with kick
- Blowing bubbles
- Submerging and opening eyes under water
- Back float
- Jumping in
- Digging (Small arm strokes)
- Safety skills
- Games and songs
Dolphin I (4 years & up): for the children who are more apprehensive in the water or who have never had swim lessons before. Children must understand they cannot leave steps without the instructor.:
- Back & Front float
- Kicking Technique
- Crawl stroke introduction
- Underwater retrieval
- Underwater swimming
- Safety skills
Porpoise (4 years & Up): Ability to go underwater without fear; basic understanding of crawl stroke.:
- Focus on correct crawl stroke arms and breathing
- Introduce back crawl stroke
- Underwater retrieval and swimming
- Safety skills
Shark (Intermediate to Advanced Swimmer): Swimmer must be able to perform crawl stroke the length of the pool alone:
- Review and perfection of crawl stoke
- Back crawl stroke
- Elementary back stroke
- Side stroke
- Breaststroke
- Treading water
- Safety skills
- Perfection of skills
- Distance swimming
